ONE SEXY FAUCET

I know my last post was all about the plumbing but I'm not done yet.  As I peruse my ever growing roster of press releases this little tidbit caught my eye.  It's a sleek beautiful sexy faucet with one hell of a marketing strategy. The new Salome faucet by Riobel is going to be unleashed upon an unsuspecting public on June 7th at Koko Bar and Restaurant in Montreal, should you be in the area.  What makes it so special you ask?  Check it out.  Need I say more? I just love it when art history intersects with design.  I think it just adds a whole other layer. Yes it's all about the looks, you know a faucet can never be too thin or rich expensive, which I'm sure it is.  The marketing brilliance is in the name and inspiration for this design.  She's (yes this faucet is a girl) called Salome' after the work of Aubrey Beardsley, the 19th century bad boy famous for his erotic Art Noveau illustrations.  Here's what Riobel has to say in their press release:

"In Harmony with this (Art Noveau) artistic concept, the faucets of Riobel’s SALOMÉ Collection are based on the aesthetics of curved lines. Due to their round profile and arched shape, Salomé products exude finesse, refinement and elegance.Turning on a SALOMÉ faucet is reminiscent of an exotic cascading waterfall, deep in the forest where all is pure, a significant aspect of these wall-mounted fixtures."  So I lied when I said it's all about the looks.  This water-as-in-nature concept seems like a great way to tame the stress and put a little Zen in your life.

NATURE OF BATHROOM LUXURY

Today "call of nature" takes on an entirely new meaning when it comes to bathroom design.    As the Green Movement gains momentum, we turn our attention towards nature and the beauty of organic elements.  Nowhere is that more appropriate than in the bath, today's sanctuary, a place to get away from it all.  Two products that stand out to me in this regard is the Vesi Channel Faucet by Brizo and the beautiful vanities at Stone Forest. The Vesi Channel Faucet by Brizo, inspired by a real life experience of nature takes it to the next level.  Check out this brief video featuring Judd Lord (badass name and creative hot guy all in one), Director of Industrial Design for Brizo.Stone Forest, based in New Mexico, has been crafting design elements for kitchens, baths and landscaping since 1989.   For the most part, the lines are straight and simple allowing the natural beauty of  the material to take center stage.                                          Check out their website as well for a whole lot more natural goodness!

ADD SOME SPICE TO YOUR KITCHEN

Ok I admit I was having a quick peak around the internet desperate for "quick post" material.  I just couldn't resist this space spice rack, not JUST a spice rack but a KITCHEN ART PRO CAROUSEL.  If you're looking for a space for your spice you can even have it with a "space" theme.  AND check this out, with each click of the dial you'll get a precisely measured 1/4 teaspoon drop of your selected spice.  Yours for $27.85, deal? More substance coming soon.

FURNITURE HIGHLIGHTS DAY 2 OF AD SHOW

I can hardly believe I've already been back a week!  I say that but at the same time so much has happened in the past week it seems like it was a month!  Things are humming back at the shop.  Our larger new location has been a great help allowing us to increase production of custom cabinets.  Right now we're working on some very slick custom vanities for a high profile, and very busy, builder.  We also are in the midst of creating a few custom furniture pieces for one of our favorite clients who has recently moved to Miami.  In addition to this the spring has brought new projects of various types and it looks like we're gearing up for a busy summer.  That is typically our busy season.  When the snowbirds fly north we get busy so that it's all done when they return.I do, however, owe you one more post about the Architectural Digest Home Design Show I attended in New York.  Without Further ado here are my favorites from day 2. Ok so there's a story that goes with this next one.  Show sponsor, Modenus, is holding a contest for the most original, interesting photo in which you had to include yourself and a product.  This is why I'm planking.  Later I was to find out that only certain booths qualified for the pic.  You'll see my real entries at the end of this post.  If I make the top 100 (we'll find out on the 7th) I'm going to ask you all to vote for me so I can go to London on the Blogtour.  Deal? Ok, thanks.  I knew I could count on my peeps.

AD SHOW, DINING BY DESIGN

Saturday it was back to the show, this time with my sister Pam and Diva Daughter Sabrina in tow.  The first day I pretty much covered the kitchen related section.  On the second day, I wanted to focus on custom furniture, the Dining by Design exhibit  and my entry for the Modenus contest (yes I'm still trying to find a way to get on a Blogtour!).  I took loads of pix and I have lots to share but today I want to show you the amazing creative table settings at Dining by Design.  This exhibit is actually a fund raiser for a worthy cause, DIFFA. Here's what they're all about: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS is one of the country’s largest supporters of direct care for people living with HIV/AIDS and preventive education for those at risk. Merging care and commerce, supporters of DIFFA come from all fields of fine design and the visual arts, including: architecture, fashion design, interior design, photography and consumer product design. In this recurring springtime event, high profile designers as well as design students get to make a statement for the cause by decorating 10' by 10' dining rooms.  The only requirement is that the dining space accommodates 10 people.  The results were truly spectacular, made twice as nice because of the message behind the beauty.  Check it out.     I could have spent all day meandering through these dazzling dining environments but there was so much more to see of the show!  Next post: Custom furniture and creative photography at the Architectural Design Home Design Show 2012
